It’s worth living your dream

A fascinating day in English with the NRW Juniorballett as guests at our school

On April 23rd the NRW Juniorballett visited us for their first time in Münster as part of a collaboration between the Ministerium für Bildung und Schule NRW / Bezirksregierung Arnsberg and Theater Dortmund. The dance company consists of ten international dancers between 18 and 22 years of age who train together seven hours per day. It was a pleasure to welcome them on behalf of the entire Q1, EF, 10b and our Ukrainian guests from Wynnizja who took part in the project.

Directed by ballet master Daria Sukhorokova, the NRW Juniorballett presented a shortened daily training session in our school’s gym.  The session was moderated by company director Rudolf Kubicko who explained to us the moves and different steps which gave us valuable background knowledge to understand the techniques and routines of a ballet dancer.

The students were able to see first-hand how hard the company train, the professionalism and discipline the dancers demonstrate along with how effortless and graceful their movements appear.

We also had some icebreaker game activities with two dancers per class and, after watching the training session, we had great fun trying out some ballet moves for ourselves!  It was fantastic being able to ask the dancers questions about their training, their work and also about their personal lives.

The highlight for many was undoubtfully the performances of different productions, from classical to contemporary. Here we could clearly see that ballet not only requires a high level of physical control and technique but that the dancers are true artists which gave us beautiful and breathtaking moments for our school to remember.

We were delighted to get the opportunity to participate in this amazing project. Many thanks to Sebastian Bialas (Bezirksregierung Arnsberg) and the wonderful NRW Juniorballet dancers and team. We are very much looking forward to seeing the company on stage at Theater Dortmund in their current production of “Radio and Juliet”, a performance which combines Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” with music by Radiohead.
