From October 11-16th the English LK with Ms Bergin and Mr Ludwig went on an exciting educational trip to London. We spent several days in the British capital and had the chance to explore many famous sights, experience British culture first-hand and improve our English language skills in real-life situations.

One of the most fascinating things about London is the contrast between its historic buildings and modern architecture. We admired London’s most iconic landmarks such as Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and Tower Bridge, while also discovering London’s modern skyline with its impressive skyscrapers.

We visited several of the city’s most famous museums. At the British Museum, we discovered fascinating objects from different periods of history and different parts of the world such as the famous Rosetta Stone. The National Gallery impressed us with its famous paintings by the likes of Monet and van Gogh, while the Natural History Museum with its extensive dinosaur collection offered exciting insights into the world of science and nature. Another highlight was the Victoria and Albert Museum, a museum for decorative arts, fashion and design, where we particularly enjoyed exploring the beautiful jewelry collection.

Another memorable part of our journey was a day trip to Cambridge. The beautiful university city impressed us with its historic colleges, old buildings and special atmosphere. We enjoyed walking through the streets and discovering the famous university. In the evening we had the opportunity to attend Evensong in Trinity Hall Chapel. The beautiful choir, the traditional service and the peaceful atmosphere made it a very special experience.

Back in London, we visited Horizon 22, one of the highest viewing platforms in Europe, and enjoyed breathtaking views across the city. Sky Garden was another special experience, combining amazing views with beautiful tropical indoor gardens on the Walkie Talkie-skyscraper.

Another highlight was our visit to Shakespeare’s Globe. We watched a performance of Much Ado About Nothing, one of Shakespeare’s most famous comedies. Experiencing a Shakespeare play in such a special theatre and to see the actors performing in this unique setting was very memorable.

Apart from sightseeing, the trip also gave everyone the chance to practice English in everyday situations. Whether ordering food, asking for directions or talking to local people, we could put our language skills into practice.

All in all, our trip to London was a great success. We experienced art, history, literature and British traditions, while also having plenty of fun together. From the amazing views of Horizon 22 and Sky Garden to the Shakespearean performance at the Globe and the moving Evensong in Cambridge, there was something special for everyone. We returned home with lots of great memories and a deeper understanding of British culture.
